Manchester United set to begin talks for Brentford striker Mbeumo

Manchester United are expected to open negotiations with Brentford over the potential signing of forward Bryan Mbeumo as new head coach Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his attacking options this summer.

Amorim has made bolstering United’s underperforming frontline a top priority after the club managed just 44 Premier League goals last season—ranking as the fifth-lowest tally in the division. High-profile signings Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee contributed only four and three league goals respectively.

Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has already agreed to join United and will finalise his move to Old Trafford following his international duties with Brazil. Now, attention has turned to Mbeumo, with the club confident they are in pole position to sign the Cameroon international.

The 25-year-old had a standout season with Brentford, scoring 20 league goals, and is understood to be keen on a move to United, who have received positive signals that they are his preferred destination. While Mbeumo’s contract has one year remaining, with an option for a further year, it does not contain a release clause, meaning Brentford could command a significant fee.

Though not a traditional centre-forward, Mbeumo is valued for his pace, power, versatility, and dynamism—qualities that align with Amorim’s desire for adaptable attacking players.

Mbeumo, who joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019, has been omitted from Cameroon’s upcoming friendlies against Uganda and Equatorial Guinea, as has United goalkeeper André Onana.

Meanwhile, reports that United captain Bruno Fernandes has rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are not expected to impact the club’s pursuit of Mbeumo.
