Liverpool agree £40m deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Hungary international Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a deal worth £40m.

The 21-year-old left-back is set to join the Premier League champions after two seasons with the Cherries, during which he established himself as one of the league’s most consistent performers.

His move comes as Bournemouth bring in Adrien Truffert from Rennes as a replacement.

Kerkez’s signing is the latest in a busy summer for Liverpool, who are on the verge of completing a £116m club-record deal for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and have already secured Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong from the same club for £29.5m.

Born in Serbia, Kerkez began his professional career at Hungarian club Gyor before joining AC Milan.

He didn’t make a senior appearance in Italy but revived his career with a switch to AZ Alkmaar in January 2022.

During the 2022–23 season, he helped Alkmaar to a fourth-place Eredivisie finish and played a key role in their run to the Europa Conference League semi-finals, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 52 matches.

He moved to Bournemouth in the summer of 2023 while current Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was still at the south coast club.

Kerkez featured in all 38 Premier League matches last season, scoring twice and notching six assists as Bournemouth achieved a club-record 56 points and a ninth-place finish.

Kerkez, who has 23 senior caps for Hungary, will reunite with international teammate Dominik Szoboszlai at Anfield.

His imminent arrival casts doubt over the futures of Liverpool’s current left-backs.

Andy Robertson, linked with Atletico Madrid, and Kostas Tsimikas both face uncertain prospects. While the club is eager to keep Robertson, now 31, they accept he may seek a new challenge for more consistent game time.

Tsimikas, meanwhile, is expected to be allowed to leave.
