Arsenal in advanced talks to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres for £70m

Arsenal are closing in on a move for Sporting Lisbon’s prolific Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, with negotiations progressing over a potential £70 million deal.

As initially reported by BBC Sport on Thursday, the 27-year-old has been Arsenal’s primary attacking target in recent days. Talks have now advanced significantly, with the club working to finalise both personal terms with Gyokeres and a fee with Sporting. Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, is leading the discussions.

While an agreement is not yet complete, there is growing optimism within the club, though a level of caution remains until all terms are settled.

Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards following a remarkable run of form in Portugal, where he has scored an astonishing 97 goals in 102 appearances across two seasons.

The Gunners recently secured the £60 million signing of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but progress in talks for Gyokeres marks a significant step forward in addressing their top summer priority—reinforcing the striker position.

Should the deal be finalised, Gyokeres would arrive as a marquee addition to bolster Arsenal’s attack ahead of the new campaign.
