Fury eyes Usyk trilogy in 2025 but rules out ring return this year

Tyson Fury won’t return to the ring in 2025, but he’s already eyeing another shot at Oleksandr Usyk, according to his promoter Frank Warren.

The 36-year-old British heavyweight announced his retirement in January after back-to-back defeats to Usyk, who now holds the WBA, WBC, and WBO belts. Usyk is set to defend his titles against Daniel Dubois in an undisputed heavyweight clash at Wembley on Saturday.

Fury, a two-time heavyweight champion, previously stepped away from boxing in 2022 before making a comeback six months later. He has since teased another return, including on social media where he proposed a trilogy fight with Usyk at Wembley next April.

“I spoke to him over the weekend. He won’t fight this year,” Warren told the 5 Live Boxing podcast. “He’s working on the second series of his Netflix show, but he’s back in the gym – not for a fight, but for his mental and physical wellbeing. It keeps him in a good place.”

Warren, who has promoted Fury since his 2018 comeback, confirmed the Morecambe fighter is fully focused on Usyk and dismissed the idea of a tune-up bout beforehand.

“He’s made it clear he wants Usyk again,” Warren said. “He’s not interested in easing his way back in.”

Fury, whose professional record stands at 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, has also been linked with potential fights against Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

“He’s had some gruelling fights — three with Deontay Wilder, a tough one against Francis Ngannou, and then two battles with Usyk,” Warren added. “He’s controlled most of his fights, but he’s not getting any younger. Knowing Tyson, if he returns, he’ll want to go straight back into the big one.”
