Manchester Utd submit £70m third bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have made a third offer for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the deal potentially rising to £70 million.

The bid is reported to include an initial £65 million fee, with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons. Brentford have yet to respond to the proposal.

United remain optimistic about completing the signing and were hopeful of finalising the deal before the squad departs for their U.S. pre-season tour on Tuesday. The team, led by manager Ruben Amorim, will spend 13 days in Chicago, playing three matches.

While United have been linked with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in recent days, club sources maintain that Mbeumo has been the top attacking target. The Cameroon international scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, attracting interest from multiple clubs, including Tottenham, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank. However, Mbeumo is said to prefer a move to Old Trafford.

Brentford may also face a battle to keep Yoane Wissa, who is reportedly being targeted by Newcastle.

Amorim has been vocal about United’s attacking shortcomings, with the club managing just 44 Premier League goals last season — their lowest tally in a top-flight campaign since the 1973–74 relegation season.

United have already secured the signings of forward Matheus Cunha and defender Diego Leon this summer. Mbeumo’s potential arrival could see Bruno Fernandes deployed in a deeper midfield role, with Cunha set to occupy one of the two inside forward positions in Amorim’s preferred formation.

The move would also further diminish the chances of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony returning to the first-team setup, as all four remain out of favour.

United begin their Premier League campaign at home against Arsenal on 17 August.
