Arsenal have completed the signing of England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £48.5 million, potentially rising to just over £50 million with add-ons.
The 23-year-old departed Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad in the U.S. ahead of their 3-0 final win over Paris Saint-Germain to finalize the transfer. Madueke has signed a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium and becomes Mikel Arteta’s fourth summer signing.
“Humbled and blessed to be here. Thank you to everyone that made this possible,” Madueke wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start to repay the faith shown in me. It’s going to be so special.”
Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for £30 million in January 2023, going on to make 92 appearances and score 20 goals. He played a key role in their Conference League triumph last season. A product of the Crystal Palace and Tottenham academies, Madueke moved to the Netherlands in 2018, where he spent over four years and won the KNVB Cup with PSV.
The winger made his senior England debut in August 2024 and provided the assist for Harry Kane’s winner in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Andorra last month.
“Noni is an exciting and powerful young player,” Arteta told Arsenal’s website. “He is one of the most talented wide forwards in the Premier League and brings both club and international experience at just 23 years of age. We’ve seen his quality up close, and his arrival will definitely strengthen our squad.”
Despite his credentials, Madueke’s move sparked some controversy among Arsenal supporters. A petition titled #NoToMadueke gathered over 5,000 signatures, and anti-Arteta graffiti was seen around Emirates Stadium earlier this month.
Madueke is Arsenal’s second signing from Chelsea this summer, following the arrival of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Gunners have also added Brentford midfielder Christian Nørgaard and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, while deals for Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera are said to be close.
