Stefanos Tsitsipas has ended his coaching partnership with Goran Ivanisevic after what he described as a “brief but intense” collaboration.
The Greek star joined forces with Ivanisevic in May, seeking to revive his form following a poor run of just two wins across his previous four Grand Slam appearances. However, results failed to improve, with Tsitsipas winning only one match during the grass-court swing and retiring injured while trailing qualifier Valentin Royer by two sets in the Wimbledon first round.
Ivanisevic, a former Wimbledon champion who previously worked with Novak Djokovic for six years, openly criticized Tsitsipas’ fitness levels.
“I’m thankful for the time, effort and energy Goran dedicated to me and my team,” Tsitsipas, 26, posted on Instagram. “As we now follow separate paths, I have only respect for Goran—not just for what he has achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person.”
A former world No. 3 and runner-up at the 2021 French Open and 2023 Australian Open, Tsitsipas has slipped to 29th in the rankings and has not progressed past the second round of a major since last year’s Roland Garros.
Ivanisevic, speaking to Serbian outlet Sportklub after Tsitsipas’ Wimbledon exit, said: “I’ve talked to him many times. If he solves some things outside tennis, he’ll return to where he belongs. I have never seen a more unprepared player in my life. With this knee, I’m three times more fit than him. This is really bad.”
Earlier this year, Ivanisevic also had a brief coaching spell with former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
