Doha: The Qatar youth boxing team returned to Doha yesterday after their impressive participation in the Asian Youth Championship, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 30 to August 12.
The tournament showcased an exceptional performance by boxer Fares Al Thani, who earned the bronze medal in the +90kg weight category — a significant addition to Qatar’s continental boxing achievements.
Upon their arrival at Hamad International Airport, the delegation was welcomed by H E Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani, President of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation; Sultan Hassan Al Jammali, Secretary General of the Federation; and Ghanem Saleh Al Kuwari, Board Member and Head of the Boxing Committee. They extended their congratulations to champion Fares Al Thani and the team for their success, reaffirming the Federation’s ongoing commitment to fostering the sport and preparing athletes for future competitions.
H E Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani praised the team’s outstanding showing, saying: “We are proud of what our boxer Fares Al Thani achieved at the Asian Youth Championship. This accomplishment is the result of hard work and consistent training, and it confirms we are on the right path toward building a generation capable of representing Qatar at the highest sporting stages. We promise to continue developing young talents and providing the best conditions to achieve more successes.”
Fares Al Thani’s achievement marks a significant milestone in his sporting career, proving his skill in the ring with a strong performance and high fighting spirit that earned him a place on the podium and the honor of raising Qatar’s flag high in a tournament that featured fierce competition from some of Asia’s top boxers.
