Qatar confirmed as host of FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025 finals

Qatar will host the final three matches of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025

Zurich: Qatar has been officially designated as the venue for the final three matches (M3 to M5) of this year’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup, which is the prestigious annual global club competition that allows the champions from all six confederations to showcase their talents on the world stage.

The concluding phase, consisting of three matches, is set to occur in Qatar in December, signifying the climax of the tournament.

Match 3, referred to as the FIFA Derby of the Americas, is slated for Wednesday, December 10. This encounter will see Mexican club Cruz Azul, the winners of the Concacaf Champions Cup 2025, take on the yet-to-be-determined champions of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2025, who will be announced on November 29, 2025.

The victors of the Derby of the Americas will subsequently compete against Egyptian team Pyramids in Match 4 for the FIFA Challenger Cup on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

Pyramids, the champions of CAF, have already earned their spot in Match 4 by overcoming New Zealand’s Auckland City (OFC champions) and Al Ahli (AFC champions) on their path to winning the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup in Jeddah on September 23.

The tournament will reach its conclusion with Match 5, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, where the winners of the FIFA Challenger Cup will face Paris Saint-Germain, the champions of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League, in a contest for the most prestigious annual club title.

This exciting period highlights Qatar’s continued role as a major host nation, as the country is also staging the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the FIFA Arab Cup in November and December, utilising the facilities, stadiums and infrastructure built for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Last year’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup saw the introduction of the updated tournament format, with Real Madrid emerging victorious by defeating Pachuca in front of almost 70,000 fans at Qatar’s iconic Lusail Stadium in December 2024.

Matches 3 and 4 will take place at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, with the venue for Match 5 to be announced in due course.
