Mbappé treble fires Real Madrid past Kairat as he reaches 60 Champions League goals

Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick and reached 60 Champions League goals as Real Madrid thrashed Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan.

The France captain opened the scoring from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza clattered into Franco Mastantuono.

He added a second in the 52nd minute, racing onto Thibaut Courtois’ long pass before delicately lifting the ball over the keeper.

Kairat briefly thought they had a lifeline when awarded a penalty for a foul on Valeri Gromyko, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review.

Mbappé missed one golden chance to seal his treble, steering wide with the goal at his mercy, but soon completed it with a close-range finish.

Late goals from substitutes Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz sealed a comprehensive win, Camavinga heading home before Díaz slotted in from Gonzalo García’s pass.

It marked Kairat’s heaviest ever defeat in European competition.

The result offered a timely boost for Xabi Alonso’s side after Saturday’s 5-2 La Liga loss to Atlético Madrid.

Mbappé’s strikes, his 58th, 59th and 60th in the Champions League, lifted him above Thomas Müller into sixth place on the competition’s all-time scoring list.
