Estevão’s late strike seals dramatic Chelsea win as Liverpool suffer 3rd straight defeat

Brazilian teenager Estevão Willian scored a stoppage-time winner to hand Chelsea a thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool and inflict a third consecutive defeat on the reigning Premier League champions.

The decisive goal came in the dying moments at Stamford Bridge, sparking jubilant celebrations that saw Blues head coach Enzo Maresca sent off in the aftermath.

Moises Caicedo opened the scoring after just 14 minutes, driving a fierce 20-yard shot beyond stand-in goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who continued to deputise for the injured Alisson.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot, under growing pressure after losses to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, left record signing Florian Wirtz on the bench but introduced him at half-time in search of a spark.

The visitors found a lifeline just after the hour mark when Cody Gakpo reacted quickest inside the six-yard box to convert after Alexander Isak’s flick from Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross.

Chelsea looked the more dangerous side late on, with Mamardashvili producing fine saves to deny substitutes Estevão and Jamie Gittens, while Enzo Fernández missed a golden chance by heading against the post.

But with time almost up, Estevão pounced ahead of Andrew Robertson to turn in Marc Cucurella’s cross and snatch victory for Maresca’s side.

The win lifts Chelsea closer to the top four, while Liverpool drop a point behind leaders Arsenal, who beat West Ham United earlier on Saturday.
