Jordi Alba to retire at end of MLS season after stellar career with Spain and Barcelona

Former Spain and Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has announced he will retire at the end of the current Major League Soccer season.

The 36-year-old, who won Euro 2012 with Spain and the Champions League with Barcelona, joined Inter Miami in 2023 to reunite with former teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez.

Miami have qualified for the MLS play-offs, which are set to conclude in early December.

“The time has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life,” Alba said in a video shared on Instagram. “I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season. I do so with complete conviction, with peace, and with happiness.”

Alba retired from international football in 2023, finishing with 93 caps for Spain.
