Haaland scores again as Man City cruise past Villarreal to stay unbeaten in Champions League

Erling Haaland extended his incredible scoring run as Manchester City eased to a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s men remain unbeaten in the league phase after first-half goals from Haaland and Bernardo Silva secured a deserved win at Estadio de la Cerámica.

The Norwegian striker has now scored in 12 consecutive matches for club and country, amassing 22 goals during that stretch.

Guardiola made four changes from the weekend’s Premier League win over Everton, resting Phil Foden as City ended a year-long wait for an away victory in Europe.

Haaland fired City ahead in the 17th minute, smashing in from close range after Rico Lewis’s clever cut-back.

Silva then doubled the lead before halftime, heading home Savinho’s cross to put the visitors firmly in control.

City lost Nico Gonzalez to injury after the break, adding to their midfield concerns with Rodri also sidelined, but otherwise cruised through much of the second half.

Villarreal applied late pressure, with Gianluigi Donnarumma denying Nicola Pepe before Renato Veiga hit the post in stoppage time.

Haaland came close to adding a second but was denied twice by Villarreal goalkeeper Luiz Junior, who kept the scoreline respectable.

The result leaves Villarreal still winless in Europe this season, with just one point from three matches, while City continue to look every bit like title contenders.
