Vinicius Jr apologises after heated Clasico clash with Barcelona players

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has said he “didn’t want to offend anyone” after a post-match confrontation with Barcelona players following Sunday’s fiery El Clasico.

The 25-year-old Brazilian was visibly frustrated when substituted in the 72nd minute and headed straight down the tunnel before returning to the bench later in the game.

After Real’s 2-1 win, Vinicius was involved in tense scenes with Barcelona’s 18-year-old winger Lamine Yamal, leading to several bookings.

Five players were cautioned for their part in the altercation, while Real substitute goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was sent off.

“El Clasico is like that,” Vinicius told Real Madrid TV. “A lot happens on and off the pitch. We try to stay calm, but it’s not always possible. We didn’t mean to offend anyone — not the Barça players, nor their fans. When we play, we defend our team, and that’s what we did.”

Tensions had been building ahead of the match after Yamal claimed last week that “Real steal and complain,” comments that angered Madrid’s squad.

Vinicius’ future at the club has also been the subject of speculation, with reports suggesting Real Madrid may consider selling him if a significant offer arrives.

His current deal expires in 2026, but negotiations over an extension have stalled.

During his substitution, TV cameras captured the Brazilian saying, “Always me! I’m leaving the team! It’s better if I leave!”

Real coach Xabi Alonso played down the outburst, saying: “I focus on the many positive things from Vini. We’ll talk about his reaction, of course.”

Addressing the post-match scuffle, Alonso added: “It’s normal. It’s the tension of the moment, for both sides. These things have always happened in El Clasico.”
