Lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis is facing a new lawsuit after fresh allegations of assaulting an ex-girlfriend — just two weeks before his scheduled exhibition bout against Jake Paul in Miami.
The civil suit, filed Thursday in Miami-Dade County, Florida, by former partner Courtney Rossel, accuses the 30-year-old boxer of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Rossel is seeking compensatory and punitive damages exceeding $50,000 (£38,000) and has requested a jury trial.
According to the complaint, Davis allegedly attacked Rossel at her workplace on 27 October and had previously threatened to kill her. The filing also claims there were at least four earlier incidents in which Davis “physically assaulted and choked” her.
Rossel says she is now suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and undergoing therapeutic treatment.
The allegations come just two months after a separate domestic violence case involving Davis and another ex-girlfriend was dropped.
Davis has a history of legal troubles, having been arrested on domestic violence charges in February 2020 and December 2022. He also served 44 days in jail in 2023 for violating a house arrest order related to a 2020 hit-and-run case in his hometown of Baltimore.
Representatives for Davis declined to comment on the latest lawsuit, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
