Wolves have dismissed head coach Vitor Pereira following a disastrous start to the Premier League season that has seen the club fail to win any of their opening 10 matches.
Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Fulham — their eighth league loss of the campaign — left Wolves bottom of the table, eight points adrift of safety.
Pereira, who was appointed in December 2024 and signed a new three-year deal just last month, came under growing pressure after a 3-2 home defeat to Burnley.
The Portuguese coach was escorted away by security following heated exchanges with fans at Molineux after that match.
In a statement announcing his departure, the club said results and performances had “fallen below acceptable standards” and confirmed that all eight members of Pereira’s backroom staff had also left.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi thanked the outgoing coach, saying:
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season. Unfortunately, this season’s start has been a disappointment, and despite our desire to give him time, we felt a change was necessary.”
Under-21s boss James Collins and under-18s head coach Richard Walker will oversee training while Wolves finalise the appointment of a new first-team manager.
Despite cup wins over West Ham and Everton, Wolves were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the last 16 by Chelsea.
BBC Sport reports Pereira was informed of his dismissal on Sunday morning, with the club opting not to pay out his full contract. Sources say he regrets not resigning before the season began.
Pereira had steered Wolves clear of relegation last term, taking them from 19th to a 16th-place finish.
However, the loss of key players in the summer — including Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, Rayan Aït-Nouri to Manchester City, and captain Nelson Semedo to Fenerbahçe — left the squad significantly weakened.
A turbulent transfer window and speculation over striker Jørgen Strand Larsen’s future added further strain, while fan frustration has increasingly been directed at chairman Jeff Shi and owners Fosun.
After guiding Wolves to safety last season with a six-game winning run, Pereira’s fortunes collapsed this term — starting with five consecutive league defeats.
The team’s only points came from draws against Tottenham and Brighton, both surrendered through late equalisers.
They have also lost to all three promoted clubs — Leeds, Sunderland, and Burnley — during their winless run.
Following the loss at Fulham, a dejected Pereira admitted to the BBC: “Maybe this was the worst performance from my team.”
