Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has a £65m release clause that can be activated during the first two weeks of the January 2026 transfer window, BBC Sport understands.
The Ghana international drew strong summer interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and others before signing a new five-year contract on 1 July.
However, that deal includes a time-limited clause allowing clubs to trigger a £65m buyout early in the winter window—giving Bournemouth sufficient time to source a replacement.
The January transfer window opens on 1 January and closes at 19:00 GMT on 2 February.
Semenyo has been in outstanding form this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 11 Premier League appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side.
Last year he hit double figures for the first time in his career, finishing with 11 league goals and 13 in all competitions as Bournemouth secured a ninth-place finish.
Born in London and eligible for Ghana through his father, Semenyo’s path to the Premier League was far from straightforward. Rejected by Arsenal, Spurs and Millwall as a youngster, he joined the SGS College programme in Bristol before signing with Bristol City in 2017.
After loan spells at Bath, Newport and Sunderland, he broke into City’s first team in 2020-21 and earned a £10m move to Bournemouth in January 2023.
With the Cherries having sold three defenders—Illia Zabarnyi, Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen—for nearly £150m last summer and losing Kepa Arrizabalaga to Arsenal after his loan, keeping hold of Semenyo has been crucial this season. Whether they can do so beyond January now rests on whether any club triggers that £65m clause.
