Real Sociedad secure vital win over Levante to strengthen European push

Real Sociedad claimed an important victory over Levante in their La Liga clash, boosting their hopes of European qualification while dealing a blow to Levante’s survival ambitions.

The match, played at the Reale Arena, brought together two sides with contrasting objectives. Real Sociedad entered the contest aiming to consolidate their position in the upper half of the table and push toward European places, while Levante arrived under pressure, sitting near the relegation zone and in desperate need of points.

From the opening stages, Real Sociedad asserted control of the game, dominating possession and dictating the tempo. Their structured build-up play and composure in midfield allowed them to pin Levante back early on, forcing the visitors into a defensive setup.

Levante, however, showed intent on the counterattack, relying on the pace and movement of their forward line. Carlos Espi, who has been one of their standout performers in recent weeks, looked to exploit spaces behind Sociedad’s defense, but clear-cut opportunities were limited due to the hosts’ organized backline.

The breakthrough eventually came in the first half, with Real Sociedad capitalizing on their territorial dominance. A well-delivered set-piece caused problems in the Levante penalty area, and Jon Martín reacted quickest to convert from close range, giving the hosts a deserved lead.

The goal shifted the momentum further in Sociedad’s favor, as they continued to control proceedings with confident passing and intelligent movement. Players like Mikel Oyarzabal and Brais Méndez played key roles in maintaining attacking pressure, consistently testing Levante’s defensive shape.

Despite going behind, Levante gradually grew into the game and began to push forward more aggressively. Their attempts to equalize saw them commit more players into attacking areas, but they struggled to break down a disciplined Sociedad defense.

In the second half, Real Sociedad adopted a more measured approach, focusing on game management while still posing a threat going forward. Their ability to retain possession and slow the tempo limited Levante’s chances of building sustained pressure.

Levante did have moments of promise, particularly through quick transitions, but their final ball and finishing lacked the precision needed to trouble the home side consistently. Sociedad’s defensive organization ensured that goalkeeper Álex Remiro was rarely tested with clear-cut chances.

Statistically, the match reflected Real Sociedad’s superiority, with the hosts enjoying greater possession and creating more meaningful opportunities in front of goal. Their control of key phases ultimately proved decisive in securing the result.

As the game entered its final stages, Sociedad remained composed, seeing out the match professionally to secure all three points. The victory continues their strong run of form and reinforces their position in the race for European qualification.

For Levante, the defeat highlights the challenges they continue to face in their fight for survival. While there were signs of resilience and attacking intent, their inability to convert chances and defensive lapses proved costly once again.

In the end, it was a controlled and efficient performance from Real Sociedad that made the difference, a result that could prove significant as the La Liga season approaches its decisive final stretch.
