Doha: Defending champions Al Arabi advanced to the semi-finals of the 13th edition of the Qatar Basketball Cup after overpowering Al Sadd 81-65 in a hard-fought quarter-final clash on Saturday evening at Al Gharafa Hall.
The victory completed the final four lineup for the 2025-2026 season tournament, which has been characterised by high intensity and closely matched technical levels among the competing teams.
Al Arabi asserted early dominance, controlling the first quarter through disciplined defence and swift offensive transitions to lead 25-19. Al Sadd responded strongly in the second period, outscoring their opponents 18-13 with improved shooting accuracy and reduced errors to narrow the gap.
However, Al Arabi delivered a commanding performance in the third quarter, dominating the boards and applying relentless defensive pressure to post a decisive 30-11 frame. This burst effectively sealed the outcome, despite Al Sadd mounting a late fightback in the fourth quarter with a 17-13 advantage. The final score stood at 81-65 in favour of Al Arabi.

On the individual front, Al Sadd’s Dejan Janic led all scorers with an impressive 26 points, delivering a standout offensive display even in defeat. For Al Arabi, Bahraini international Mustafa Hussain “Mosti” emerged as the key performer with 20 points, providing crucial contributions at pivotal moments.
Al Arabi’s Abdulrahman Abdelhalim was recognised as the Best Qatari Player of the Match and received the award from Musafir Trading & Transport, valued at $100, in acknowledgment of his strong defensive presence and ability to dictate the tempo of the game.
The quarter-final results have set up an exciting semi-final stage. Al Rayyan were the first to qualify after a convincing 70-47 victory over Al Khor, while Al Wakrah defeated Qatar Club 86-73. Al Shamal secured a commanding 99-78 win against Al Gharafa, and Al Sadd had earlier advanced by beating Al Ahli 78-67 before falling to Al Arabi.
The semi-final matchups are now confirmed: Al Wakrah will take on Al Shamal in one tie, while Al Arabi face Al Rayyan in a highly anticipated clash between two clubs with rich basketball traditions.
Historically, Al Arabi and Al Gharafa jointly hold the record for the most Qatar Cup titles with four each. Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, and Al Sadd have one title apiece, adding extra motivation as all sides look to enhance their legacy in the competition.
