Doha 2026: Team Qatar hits 133 medals to secure unstoppable lead at GCC Games

Doha: Host nation Qatar has firmly cemented its position at the summit of the 4th GCC Games, pushing its impressive medal haul to 133 as the tournament enters its final day. Holding a commanding lead, Qatar’s tally includes 48 gold, 49 silver, and 36 bronze medals. Saudi Arabia maintains second place with 79 medals (30 gold, 27 silver, 22 bronze), followed by Bahrain in third with 62 medals (24 gold, 22 silver, 16 bronze).

Karate: Five-medal haul anchored by Yaman Ashraf’s gold

Team Qatar’s karate athletes put on a stellar performance on the penultimate day of the games, capturing five medals—one gold, three silver, and one bronze.

  • The gold standard: Yaman Ashraf clinched Qatar’s lone karate gold in a thrilling under-67kg final, narrowly defeating Saudi Arabia’s Saad Al Saif 10-9.
  • The silver sweep: Qatari martial artists locked down three hard-fought silver medals:
    • Mustafa Abdulrahman (under-60kg), finishing behind Kuwait’s Ali Al Ajmi.
    • Abdullah Rashid (under-84kg), following Saudi Arabia’s Ahmed Al Malki.
    • Khalid Samir (over-84kg), finishing behind Saudi Arabia’s Anas Al Zahrani.
  • The bronze finish: Youssef Riyadh added a bronze to the tally in the under-75kg division, sharing the podium with the UAE’s Ali Youssef in a category won by Kuwait’s Omar Al Janai.

The podium finishers were crowned in a joint ceremony attended by top regional karate officials, including Eid Ali Al Marikhi, President of the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo and Karate Federation.

Shooting & archery: Qatari marksmen dominate with historic 26-medal tally

The shooting and archery events at the Lusail International Shooting Complex concluded in spectacular fashion. Team Qatar utterly dominated the range, capturing six final-day medals (three gold, three bronze) to finalize a historic haul of 26 medals overall (12 gold, 6 silver, 8 bronze).

Final shooting & archery standings: Qatar finished first in the discipline with 26 medals, comfortably ahead of Saudi Arabia (16), the UAE (18, with fewer golds), Kuwait (10), Bahrain (12), and Oman (6).

President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association  Dr. Mishaal Ibrahim Al Nasr presented the awards alongside GCC dignitaries, closing out a highly praised, world-class competitive program in Lusail.
