Morocco beat Argentina 1-2 in bizarre ‘post-match’ scenario

Paris: The Moroccan U23 Olympic team defeated the Argentina U23 Olympic team in one of the most absurd scenarios that football has ever witnessed.

Morocco opened the scoring in the second minute of added two of the first half after a beautiful string of passes found the Al Ain striker, who pounced on an
Achraf Hakimi cross to slot it in.

Rahimi doubled Morocco’s lead in the 49th minute from the spot, before Argentina’s Giuliano Simeone pulled one back in the 68th minute.

Match referee Glenn Nyberg added 15 minutes extra after the full 90 minutes wrapped. Argentina’s Cristian Medina found the back of the net 15 minutes and 20 seconds into stoppage time. The game then seemingly ended with both squads exiting the field.

Several media outlets reported that the match had not ended due to some fans storming the pitch and allegedly “throwing water bottles” at the fans.

The official Olympics website had shown that the match was “interrupted” at that point, and both teams’ players had been waiting in the dressing room.

Two hours later, it was decided via video assisted replay that Argentina’s Medina was found to be offside. Nyberg ruled the goal out and both teams were forced back into the empty stadium and Morocco held on for three minutes before the final whistle was blown.
