Doha: The defending champions, Al Sadd, are eager to make a strong comeback in the Ooredoo Stars League (OSL) following an unexpected defeat to Al Shamal in their season opener.
Under the guidance of coach Felix Sanchez, the team is set to face Qatar SC at Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday, as the second round of the league commences.
Al Duhail and Al Rayyan currently occupy the top two positions after impressive performances in the opening week.
Earlier this week, Al Shamal triumphed over Al Sadd with a score of 2-1, largely due to a brace from striker Baghdad Bounedjah, who departed the Wolves after a lengthy tenure.
Al Sadd’s goalkeeper, Meshaal Barsham, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, stating that the team must work diligently to meet their objectives this season.
“We need to remain concentrated and strive hard to fulfill the team’s aspirations,” Barsham remarked post-defeat.
“We were not fortunate in that match, as we squandered several chances that could have altered the outcome. However, it is still early in the season, and the players will learn from their errors and enhance their performances in future matches.”
Meanwhile, today’s clash between Al Duhail and Al Rayyan is anticipated to be a highlight of the second round, with fans looking forward to an exhilarating contest between these title contenders.
Al Duhail commenced their campaign with a resounding 6-1 victory over Qatar SC, featuring a hat-trick from Kenyan striker Michael Olunga.
Al Rayyan also showcased their prowess in their opening match, defeating Umm Salal 3-1.
Another eagerly awaited encounter in the second round will see Al Arabi face Al Wakrah, as both teams seek their first win of the OSL season at Al Thumama Stadium on Saturday.
Al Arabi managed a goalless draw against Al Shahania, while Al Wakrah conceded a late equalizer to Al Ahli, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
Al Shamal, aiming to maintain their winning momentum, will compete against Umm Salal at Al Janoub Stadium today.
