Doha: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) has officially announced the inaugural Qatar Classic Chess Cup Championship, scheduled to take place from August 29 to September 4.
According to a statement from the QCA, this championship will feature competitions for both men’s and women’s categories, hosted at the Qatar Chess Training Center. Participation will be exclusively available to Qatari players, regardless of gender.
QCA President Mohammed Al Mudhahka emphasized that this first edition of the Qatar Cup Championship represents a new initiative by the Federation aimed at enhancing the popularity of chess among Qatari men and women, while fostering a competitive atmosphere for participants.
Al Mudhahka further elaborated that the championship is part of the Association’s strategic plans to effect a significant transformation in the sport, providing a valuable opportunity for the National Teams Committee to identify and nurture emerging talents for future inclusion, as well as to broaden the pool of elite players representing Qatari chess in international competitions.
In conclusion, the QCA president reiterated that this championship aligns with the primary objectives established by the Association’s Board of Directors, which include expanding the game’s reach, cultivating a new generation to support national teams, and enhancing the country’s presence in Arab, continental, and global events.
