Carlos Alcaraz opened his campaign with a dominant straight-sets victory over Sebastian Baez at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters on Tuesday.
The world No. 1 defeated the Argentine 6-1, 6-3 in just over an hour, producing a commanding display on clay to advance to the next round.
Alcaraz took control early, breaking serve multiple times in the opening set before maintaining his intensity to close out the match comfortably in straight sets.
The Spaniard, who is the defending champion in Monte Carlo, showed no signs of rust despite it being his first clay match in months.
He will now face the winner of the clash between Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Terence Atmane in the next round.
