Expo Stars League 2023-2024 season Week 2 Review

The 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League continued with the second week’s action held over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 25, 26 and 27, 2023.

RESULTS

Al Duhail bt Muaither 4-1

Al Rayyan bt Qatar SC 1-0

Al Gharafa bt Al Markhiya 2-0

Al Sadd bt Al Ahli 4-2

Al Arabi drew Umm Salal 1-1

Al Wakrah drew Al Shamal 2-2

A total of 20 goals were scored in the six matches, making an average of 3.33 goals per match. Two red cards, which were absent in the first round, were shown.

Al Duhail, Al Rayyan and Al Sadd succeeded in maintaining their perfect start to the season having obtained the maximum six points, while Muaither, Al Markhiya and Al Ahli clubs are still without any points.

Al Duhail, the defending champions, got the better of Muaither in the second half, after the first half ended in a 1-1 draw. Almoez Ali, the team’s striker, shone and bagged a hattrick in this meeting to continue his excellent performance, after he also scored a goal in the Al Duhail and Al Ahly match in the first round.

Al Gharafa managed to achieve a valuable victory over Al Markhiya with a clean double for their star Yacine Brahimi in the second half to achieve their first victory in the league, thus raising the points tally to four in the league table, while Al Markhiya remained without any points.

Al Sadd achieved their second victory in a row at the expense of Al Ahli. They defeated their opponents 4-2 after having secured a 3-1 win over Umm Salal in the first round. They possess the strongest attack at the moment with seven goals in two matches.

Al Arabi snatched a valuable point from Umm Salal by equalizing late in injury time (90+11) to tie the game 1-1 after Umm Salal had drawn the first blood through Kenji Gorre in the 86th minute.

The second-round action concluded, with Al Wakrah and Al Shamal meeting at the Al Janoub Stadium. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Al Shamal exhibited a formidable and vigorous offensive display, resulting in the opening goal scored by Ali Olwan during the initial half. However, Al Wakrah made a resolute comeback during the second half and equalized through Jacinto Dala. Subsequently, Ricardo Gomez propelled Al Shamal ahead with a second goal from a penalty kick, which was matched by Al Wakrah through a penalty kick scored by Mohamed Benyettou in the second minute of stoppage time.
