QBF strengthens cooperation with Hungarian counterpart

Doha: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has announced an enhancement of its collaboration with the Hungarian Basketball Federation, following a meeting between Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, the Secretary General of QBF, and representatives from the Hungarian Basketball Federation.

This partnership is designed to facilitate the exchange of expertise and foster stronger ties between the two federations, ultimately contributing to the advancement of basketball in both nations.

In terms of friendly matches, the meeting resulted in an agreement to arrange two international games between the national teams of Qatar and Hungary. The first match is scheduled to take place in Hungary, while the second will be hosted in Doha. Additionally, a training camp for the Qatari national team will be conducted in Hungary as part of their preparations for the upcoming Asian qualifiers, where they will compete against the national teams of India and Iran.

Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari visited the Qatari national basketball team, which is currently engaged in a training camp in Serbia in preparation for the Gulf Basketball Championship. This championship is scheduled to take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain from September 2 to 7. The training camp is part of a rigorous preparation strategy for the upcoming tournament, featuring both morning and evening training sessions, as well as friendly matches.

The Gulf Basketball Championship represents a significant opportunity for the Qatari national team, particularly following a five-year hiatus since the last tournament in 2019. The event will be hosted at the Khalifa Sports City Hall in Bahrain, with participation from the national teams of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain, spanning a duration of five days.

Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Hungarian Federation, stating that this initiative aligns with the Qatar Basketball Federation’s strategy to foster international partnerships and enhance the standard of basketball in Qatar. He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming matches and training camps, which are expected to effectively prepare the national team for both regional and international competitions.

Furthermore, he noted that the Qatar Basketball Federation is dedicated to advancing sports in Qatar and improving the performance of national teams in anticipation of regional and international events, through partnerships with other sports federations and the organization of training camps and friendly matches.

In addition to the senior team’s preparations, the Qatari youth team is also gearing up for the 2024 Asian Youth Basketball Cup, which will be held in Jordan from September 2 to 9. The youth team qualified for this prestigious event after securing the Gulf Championship title in Kuwait, where they achieved victory in all their matches.
