Barcelona thrash 10-man Real Sociedad to go top of La Liga

Barcelona restored their one-point advantage at the top of La Liga with a convincing 4-0 victory over 10-man Real Sociedad at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Hansi Flick’s side extended their winning run to six games, with goals from Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo, and Robert Lewandowski. The win came after Atletico Madrid had temporarily leapfrogged them with a 1-0 win over Athletic Club on Saturday.

The turning point came in the 17th minute when Sociedad defender Aritz Elustondo received a straight red card for bringing down Dani Olmo. Barcelona capitalized on their advantage eight minutes later, with Martin scoring his first goal for the club.

Casado also scored his first Barcelona goal, deflecting Olmo’s strike from the edge of the box. Araujo headed home a corner from Raphinha, before Lewandowski sealed the rout on the hour mark.

The win marked a significant statement of intent from Barcelona in the title race. Real Sociedad, who face Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday, slipped to ninth place in the table.

With this convincing victory, Barcelona reaffirmed their position as one of the top contenders for the La Liga title.
