Qatar clinch silver at West Asian Volleyball Championship

By Staff Reporter

Muscat: Qatar’s men’s volleyball team secured the silver medal at the second West Asian Volleyball Championship after falling to hosts Oman in straight sets in the final held in Muscat on Monday.

The defending champions were beaten 25-19, 25-15, 25-23 by the home side, who claimed the regional title with a commanding performance.

Qatar, who lifted the inaugural championship trophy in Bahrain last year, enjoyed an impressive campaign en route to the final. The team topped Group A during the preliminary stage before overcoming Iraq in the semi-finals to book their place in the title decider.

Despite finishing runners-up, several Qatari players earned individual honours for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Mohammed Al-Walid was named Best Outside Hitter (Position 4), Abdullah Naseem received the Best Middle Blocker (Position 3) award, while Mahdi Samoud was recognised as the tournament’s Best Setter.

In the final standings, Oman claimed the championship title, with Qatar finishing second. Iraq took the bronze medal, followed by Kuwait in fourth place, Saudi Arabia in fifth, Syria in sixth, and Lebanon in seventh.
