Crystal Palace set to sign PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez on free transfer

Crystal Palace are on the verge of completing the signing of PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Walter Benitez on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old Argentina international has undergone a medical, and the deal will be officially announced once the final paperwork is completed. Benitez’s contract with PSV expires at the end of the month.

Benitez played a key role in PSV’s Eredivisie title-winning campaign, featuring in every league match as they narrowly edged out Ajax by a single point.

He also made 11 appearances in PSV’s Champions League run last season, which ended in the last 16 following a 9-3 aggregate defeat to Arsenal.

At Selhurst Park, Benitez will provide competition for current first-choice keeper Dean Henderson, who recently started for England in their 3-1 friendly loss to Senegal at the City Ground.
