Mbappé double keeps Real Madrid perfect with win at Levante

Kylian Mbappé struck twice in two minutes as Real Madrid maintained their flawless start to the La Liga season with a 4-1 victory over Levante.

Vinícius Jr opened the scoring with a brilliant outside-of-the-boot finish from a tight angle, before setting up 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono to fire into the top corner — the Argentine becoming Madrid’s fourth-youngest league scorer.

Levante briefly threatened a fightback when Etta Eyong headed in Ivan Romero’s cross, but Mbappé ended the contest after the break.

The Frenchman chipped in a composed Panenka penalty on 64 minutes before calmly finishing from Arda Güler’s pass moments later to take his tally to seven goals in six league matches.

The victory gave Xabi Alonso six wins from his opening six La Liga games in charge — a feat only Vanderlei Luxemburgo has previously achieved with Madrid.

The derby at Atletico on Saturday offers Alonso the chance to equal that record.

Madrid now sit five points clear at the top, though Barcelona can trim the gap when they face Oviedo on Thursday.
