Harry Kane becomes fastest player this century to reach 100 goals in Europe’s top leagues

Harry Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich’s victory over Werder Bremen on Friday to become the fastest player this century to reach 100 goals for a club in Europe’s top five leagues.

The England captain won and converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time before adding a close-range finish in the 65th minute, bringing up his century in just 104 matches.

The previous record of 105 games was set by Cristiano Ronaldo with Real Madrid in 2011 and equalled by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland last year.

Former Liverpool winger Luis Díaz had earlier opened the scoring by diverting in Jonathan Tah’s flick from a corner, while Konrad Laimer added a late fourth to seal Bayern’s unbeaten start to the season.

Kane’s landmark comes just a week after he broke two Bundesliga records in a 4-1 win over Hoffenheim, where he hit a hat-trick.

He became the fastest player to 70 Bundesliga goals, reaching the milestone in 67 games, and also holds the records for the most goals in 50 Bundesliga matches (54) and the fewest games needed to hit 50 (43).

On Friday he set more milestones, becoming the first player in Bundesliga history to score from his first 18 penalties and to net 18 consecutive spot-kicks.

He is also the only player to finish as top scorer in each of his first two Bundesliga seasons, and the first to score 25 or more goals in both.

This campaign he has already struck 15 times in eight matches across all competitions, including two hat-tricks in five league outings, with Vincent Kompany’s side sitting top of the table with a perfect record.

Kane is also the highest-scoring Englishman in Champions League history with 42 goals, and has found the net against every Bundesliga opponent he has faced — something only Miroslav Klose has surpassed, having scored against all 28 sides he met.

The striker joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in a £100m move in 2023, after scoring 280 goals in 435 appearances for the Premier League club.

He is two years into the four-year deal he signed in Munich but has recently been linked with both Manchester United and a possible return to Spurs.

Asked about a Premier League comeback after Friday’s match, Kane dismissed the idea: “No, not at the moment. I’m really happy here. I have two years left on my contract. I’m enjoying every moment — with the team, with the coach — and hopefully we continue to be successful.”
