Chelsea make CL history with three teenage scorers in 5-1 rout of Ajax

Chelsea made history on Tuesday night as they became the first club ever to have three teenage scorers in a Champions League match, thrashing a dismal Ajax side 5-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Marc Guiu, 19, opened the scoring and briefly became Chelsea’s youngest-ever Champions League goalscorer during a chaotic spell that also saw Ajax captain Kenneth Taylor sent off.

Just over half an hour later, his record was broken when 18-year-old Estevao Willian converted the third of three first-half penalties, following successful spot-kicks from Enzo Fernandez and Wout Weghorst, along with a long-range strike from Moises Caicedo.

At half-time, manager Enzo Maresca introduced forward Tyrique George, who found the net three minutes after coming on with a precise finish from the edge of the box—making him the third teenager on the scoresheet.

Seventeen-year-old midfielder Reggie Walsh also made history, becoming Chelsea’s youngest Champions League player and the second-youngest Englishman to feature in the competition after Jack Wilshere.

Ajax, four-time European champions, were poor throughout. Taylor’s reckless challenge set the tone, and more ill-discipline followed when Weghorst conceded a penalty for a foul on Fernandez, who then converted from the spot.

Moments later, Youri Baas’ clumsy foul on Estevao gifted Chelsea a third penalty, which the Brazilian teenager calmly dispatched in first-half stoppage time.

After George added the fifth goal, the game lost intensity as Chelsea comfortably saw out the victory.

Maresca used the opportunity to rest key players like Caicedo, Fernandez and Adarabioyo, completing all five substitutions before the 65th minute.

Ajax’s decline continued with a third straight Champions League defeat, leaving them bottom of the 36-team league phase and winless in four matches across all competitions.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have now recorded back-to-back European wins following their opening loss to Bayern Munich and will travel next to face Qarabag in Azerbaijan.
