Doha: Qatar’s men’s and women’s national 3×3 basketball teams will begin their campaign in the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, set to take place in Singapore from April 1 to 5, with two key Group D matches on Friday.
Qatar will open their campaign against India on April 3, aiming to secure a strong start in the competition. The team will be looking to assert control early, although India arrive with momentum after progressing through the qualifying rounds.
Later the same day, Qatar will face a tougher test against New Zealand, one of Asia’s leading sides in the 3×3 format. The encounter is expected to demand high levels of concentration and tactical discipline against an experienced opponent.
Both matches are crucial in determining the group standings and Qatar’s chances of advancing to the knockout stages, while also testing the team’s ability to adapt to the fast-paced and physical nature of 3×3 basketball.
The Qatari delegation in Singapore is headed by Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams, alongside Yassin Ismail, Director of the 3×3 National Teams. The technical staff is led by coach Marco, with the men’s squad comprising Mohammed Hashem Zidan, Mubarak Jama, Dejan Janic and Nedim Muslic.
The tournament features 22 teams from across Asia, including leading sides such as China, Japan, Australia and hosts Singapore, highlighting the level of competition Qatar will face.
Qatar’s participation underlines its commitment to gaining valuable experience and competing against the continent’s top teams, as the players aim to showcase their capabilities on the regional stage.
