Al Arabi seek first win against Bahrain’s Al Manama in WASL Gulf campaign

Manama: Qatar’s Al Arabi will lock horns with Bahrain’s Al Manama on Thursday in a crucial second-round encounter of Group Two in the Arabian Gulf region of the West Asian Basketball Super League Championship for Clubs.

The match, to be played in Manama, carries high stakes for both sides as they aim to bounce back from opening-round defeats and keep alive their hopes of advancing in the regional competition.

Al Arabi, who suffered a loss to Al-Ittihad of Jeddah from Saudi Arabia in their first game, are determined to secure their maiden victory and stay in contention for a top finish in the group. The Qatari side knows that anything less than a win could severely dent their prospects of progressing further in the tournament.

On the other side, hosts Al Manama are equally motivated, looking to erase the memory of their defeat to Al-Qadisiyah of Kuwait in the previous round. A victory against Al Arabi would boost their morale and strengthen their position in the tight group standings.

The draw has placed Al Arabi in a competitive Group Two alongside Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia), Al-Qadisiyah (Kuwait), and Al-Manama (Bahrain). According to the tournament format, the group winner advances directly to the semi-finals. The second- and third-placed teams from each of the two Gulf groups will have to contest a best-of-three play-off series, with the winner of two matches qualifying for the semi-finals.

Three teams from the Gulf region will ultimately join three qualifiers from West Asia and two from South and Central Asia to complete the Final 8 lineup, where the continental title will be decided.

Al Arabi will be relying on their squad’s resilience and tactical discipline to overcome the challenge posed by Al Manama on their home court. The encounter promises to be a hard-fought battle as both clubs chase their first win and valuable momentum in the ongoing campaign.
