Late drama as Al Wakrah hold Al Gharafa in six-goal thriller

Doha: Al Wakrah SC staged a remarkable late comeback to secure a 3-3 draw against title-chasing Al Gharafa SC in an action-packed Week 21 clash of the 2025-2026 Qatar Stars League at Stadium 974 on Wednesday.

Al Wakrah opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Amine Zouhzouh, who headed home from close range following a precise corner delivered by Luis Alberto.

Al Gharafa SC responded strongly and restored parity just before the break, with Álvaro Djaló firing in a powerful low effort after a superb cross from Yacine Brahimi.

The momentum swung in Al Gharafa’s favour early in the second half as Ferjani Sassi converted another Brahimi corner in the 51st minute to give The Cheetahs the lead. Brahimi then turned scorer himself in the 71st minute, finishing off an assist from Amro Abdelfatah Surag to extend the advantage to 3-1.

Despite trailing by two goals, Al Wakrah mounted a spirited comeback. Luis Alberto reduced the deficit in the 77th minute with a stunning long-range strike, setting up a tense finale.

The hosts completed their comeback deep into stoppage time when Almahdi Ali found the net to snatch a dramatic equaliser and ensure the points were shared.

The thrilling draw keeps both sides in contention as the season approaches its final stages, with Al Gharafa moving to 35 points while Al Wakrah climbed to 24 points in the standings.
