Qatar’s Cherif and Tijan strike gold at Asian Beach Games

Sanya: Qatar’s beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan clinched the gold medal at the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, defeating Iran in straight sets in the final.

The Qatari pair controlled the match from the outset, sealing victory with convincing scores of 21-15 and 21-12. Their performance showcased a clear edge in both technical execution and physical dominance throughout the contest.

The win capped an unbeaten run for Qatar in the tournament, reinforcing the team’s position among Asia’s elite in beach volleyball.

President of the Qatar Volleyball Association, Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari, praised the achievement, describing it as the outcome of sustained efforts to develop the national team across all levels.

He noted that the victory would provide strong momentum heading into future competitions, adding that the federation will focus on maintaining performance standards and targeting further success at both regional and international levels.

Al Kuwari also highlighted the broader ecosystem supporting sport in Qatar, emphasizing continued investment in athlete development through expanded grassroots initiatives and enhanced international training programmes.
