DIRIYAH: The road to continental glory has been paved following the spectacular Final Draw for the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027. Set against the majestic backdrop of Salwa Palace, Asia’s top 24 nations discovered their fate as the official slogan, “Ahlan Asia” (Welcome Asia), was revealed to the world.
The tournament will run from January 7 to February 5, 2027, marking the first time the Kingdom has hosted the prestigious showpiece.
Opening night: The Green Falcons begin their quest
The tournament kicks off on Thursday, January 7, at the iconic King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh. Host nation Saudi Arabia will face Palestine in the Group A opener before a crowd of 72,000.
Guided by Georgios Donis, the Green Falcons are chasing a record-equaling fourth title, while Palestine looks to build on their historic knockout stage appearance from the previous edition.

Marquee group stage showdowns
The draw has produced several high-octane fixtures that will define the early stages of the competition:
-
Uzbekistan vs. Jordan (Jan 8): A rematch of the 2011 quarter-final. Jordan, the 2023 finalists, face a rising Uzbekistan side fresh off their FIFA World Cup qualification.
-
Iraq vs. Australia (Jan 14): A narrative-rich clash in Group D as Graham Arnold, now leading Iraq, faces his home country and successor Tony Popovic. Arnold recently became an Iraqi hero after leading the nation to its first World Cup since 1986.
-
Japan vs. Qatar (Jan 20): A titanic Group F finale. This burgeoning rivalry pits the record four-time champions (Japan) against the back-to-back reigning champions (Qatar) in a repeat of the 2019 final.
