FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 qualifiers draw held in Doha

Doha: A detailed roadmap to Qatar has been established for 80 national teams following the successful completion of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers Draw on May 13, held at the impressive ALHAZM Mall in Doha.

This draw outlined the preliminary routes for all nations vying for a coveted spot in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, where 32 countries will compete for the esteemed Naismith Trophy. The tournament will unfold over six designated windows from November 2025 to March 2027, featuring a total of 420 games to be enjoyed globally.

The draw was conducted by FIBA Global Ambassador and basketball icon Carmelo Anthony, with assistance from British sports legend Sir Mo Farah, a highly decorated long-distance runner boasting four Olympic gold medals and six world championships.

Joining them were Mutaz Essa Barshim, a four-time Olympic medalist in high jump, and Yassin Mousa, a celebrated figure in GGC basketball and a 3×3 world champion.

The Naismith Trophy was presented on stage by Dirk Nowitzki, the MVP of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2002 and former captain of the German national team, who represented his nation as the reigning world champion following their victory in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The event was attended by FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, and members of the FIBA Central Board, alongside Mohammed Al-Meghaiseeb, Director General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and LOC. Additionally, over 60 representatives from National Federations worldwide were present in Doha for this esteemed event.
