Yamal helps Barcelona fight back in draw at Club Brugge

Lamine Yamal produced a moment of brilliance as Barcelona battled back three times to earn a thrilling draw against Club Brugge in a dramatic Champions League encounter.

The hosts thought they had snatched victory in stoppage time when Romeo Vermant dispossessed Wojciech Szczesny and scored into an empty net, but the goal was overturned by VAR for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Club Brugge struck first in the sixth minute as Carlos Forbs raced down the right and squared for Nicolo Tresoldi to finish, only for Ferran Torres to level two minutes later with a sharp first-time effort from Fermin Lopez’s cross.

Fermin hit the post soon after, but Brugge regained the lead when Forbs finished neatly following a slick move through Barcelona’s high defensive line.

The visitors struck the woodwork twice more through Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia before Yamal lit up the match — the teenager gliding past defenders, exchanging passes with Dani Olmo, and calmly slotting home to make it 2-2.

Forbs, formerly on loan at Wolves, then restored Brugge’s advantage after missing an earlier chance, latching onto Hans Vanaken’s through ball and clipping past Szczesny.

Moments later, a Brugge penalty for a challenge on Forbs was overturned by VAR, and Barcelona capitalised when Yamal’s cross was headed into his own net by Christos Tzolis.

Deep into stoppage time, Szczesny was caught in possession by Vermant, but VAR once again came to Barcelona’s rescue, ruling out the goal and sealing an extraordinary 3-3 draw.
