Qatar set for quarter-final showdown against China in FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup

Singapore: Qatar’s national 3×3 basketball team will face a stern test on Sunday when they take on China in the quarter-finals of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2026 in Singapore.

The Qatari side advanced to the knockout stage after securing second place in Group D, boosted by an impressive opening win and valuable experience gained against top opposition.

Qatar began their campaign with a disciplined 16-11 victory over India, showcasing strong tactical organisation and effective play under the basket. However, they faced a formidable challenge in their second match against New Zealand, one of Asia-Oceania’s strongest 3×3 teams, eventually going down 11-21.

China, meanwhile, progressed from Group B after a narrow 19-21 defeat to Malaysia followed by a solid 21-15 victory over Australia.

The tournament, which features 22 teams from across Asia and Oceania including powerhouses such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand and hosts Singapore, continues to deliver high-intensity action in the fast-paced 3×3 format.

The Qatari delegation in Singapore is headed by QBF Secretary-General and Director of National Teams, Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, along with Captain Yaseen Ismail, Director of 3×3 National Teams. The squad is coached by Marco and consists of Mohammed Hashem Zidan, Mubarak Jama, Dejan Janic, and Nedim Muslic.

Qatar will now look to build on their promising start and deliver a strong performance against China as they aim to make a mark in this highly competitive continental championship.
