Isak trains alone at former club as Liverpool interest grows amid Newcastle exit talk

Alexander Isak is training alone at former club Real Sociedad as uncertainty continues to surround his future at Newcastle United.

The Swedish striker was omitted from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the club citing a “minor” thigh issue. However, sources told BBC Sport that Isak is using Sociedad’s facilities in Spain but is not training with their squad.

Isak is open to exploring a move away from St James’ Park, with Liverpool showing strong interest in the former Borussia Dortmund forward.

The 25-year-old joined Newcastle from Sociedad in 2022 for £60m and scored 27 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe confirmed earlier this week that no official offers have been made for the striker.

“\[Isak] is still our player. He’s contracted to us,” Howe said. “We control, to a degree, what is next for him. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not entirely in my control.

“We have not received a formal offer for Alex from any club.”

Newcastle lost 1-0 to a K-League XI in their latest pre-season match on Wednesday and face Tottenham at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Sunday.
