Salah to bid farewell to Liverpool at end of season

LONDON: Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the current season, the Premier League champions announced on Tuesday, bringing an end to the forward’s illustrious nine-year spell at Anfield.

The 33-year-old Egyptian, who joined from AS Roma in 2017, has made 435 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 255 goals across all competitions.

In a statement, the club confirmed that Salah will “bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season,” adding that the forward had reached an agreement to conclude a remarkable chapter with the Reds.

The club also noted that Salah opted to inform supporters at the earliest opportunity, citing his respect and gratitude towards them.

Salah’s announcement comes shortly after he was forced off during Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Galatasaray SK at Anfield last week, a result that secured their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Despite the setback, the forward had shown signs of returning to form, scoring in three of his previous four starts following a rare dip in performance levels.

Earlier in the season, Salah endured a difficult period after a reported fallout with Liverpool manager Arne Slot, which saw him dropped for several matches. However, he had since worked his way back into the starting line-up.

While he remains a key figure, Salah has managed just five Premier League goals this season, a sharp contrast to the 29 he scored during Liverpool’s title-winning 2024/25 campaign.
