Korean and Japanese ambassadors visit Doha ice rink to support Qatar’s growing winter sports ambitions

Doha: The Ambassadors of the Republic of Korea and Japan recently visited the ice rink at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena in Al Sadd Sports Club to inspect the facilities dedicated to ice sports in Qatar.

H.E. Yun Hyunsoo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and H.E. Naoto Hisajima, Ambassador of Japan, accepted an invitation from the Qatar Winter Sports Committee as part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to develop and promote ice sports locally while raising their profile at regional and international levels.

The ambassadors were welcomed by Hassan Hissam Al Hebabi, Secretary-General of the Qatar Winter Sports Committee, who led them on a comprehensive tour of the venue. They were briefed on the rink’s modern equipment and advanced infrastructure, which highlight Qatar’s commitment to supporting a wide range of sports, including winter disciplines.

During the visit, the two ambassadors participated in a friendly curling match alongside members and staff from their diplomatic missions. The activity was held in a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, reflecting the strong bilateral relations between the Republic of Korea, Japan, and the State of Qatar.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Qatar Winter Sports Committee exchanged commemorative gifts with the ambassadors in appreciation of their interest in Qatar’s ice sports development. The gesture underscored the mutual respect and cooperation between the parties.

Hassan Hissam Al Hebabi expressed gratitude to the ambassadors for their visit and highlighted that ice sports in Qatar are entering a new phase of significant infrastructure expansion. He noted that this progress will further strengthen the sector and support the long-term development of winter sports in the country.

Ambassador Yun Hyunsoo thanked the committee for the warm welcome and praised the high standard of the ice rink and its state-of-the-art facilities. He described the venue as an excellent model of modern sports infrastructure that reflects Qatar’s broader achievements in the sports sector.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Naoto Hisajima commended the Qatar Winter Sports Committee for its dedicated efforts, stating that such initiatives demonstrate an ambitious strategic vision. He emphasized that these developments are helping to elevate Qatar’s position on the international sports stage through the provision of specialized facilities for winter sports.
