Doha: Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui has announced Qatar’s 28-player squad for the international friendly against the Republic of Ireland, scheduled for next Thursday at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
The match forms part of Qatar’s final preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Qatar are drawn in Group B alongside Canada, Switzerland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The travelling squad includes:
Goalkeepers: Shehab Al-Laithi, Salah Zakaria, Meshaal Barsham, Mahmoud Abu Nada.
Outfield players: Moez Ali, Akram Afif, Tahsin Mohammed, Ahmed Fathi, Edmilson Junior, Boualem Khoukhi, Pedro Miguel, Sultan Al Braik, Ahmed Al Janhi, Ahmed Alaa, Al Hashmi Al Hussain, Ayoub Al Aloui, Ryan Al Ali, Jassim Gabir, Hassan Al Haydos, Assim Madibo, Abdulaziz Hatem, Issa Lai, Karim Boudiaf, Lucas Mendes, Mohammed Muntari, Hommam Al Amin, and Yousuf Abdulrazzaq.
Seven players from the preliminary World Cup list have been left out: Sebastian Soria, Bassam Al Rawi, Tarik Salman, Fahad Yunis, Mubarak Shannan, Mohammed Waad, and Naeel Mason.
Lopetegui is expected to make two final cuts after the Ireland match, finalising a 26-man squad for the World Cup.
The friendly kicks off at 7:45 pm local time (9:45 pm Doha time).
