Organizing committee president of GCC Universities Sports Tournament riding high with great success

Doha: President of the Organizing Committee for the ninth edition of the Sports Tournament for the GCC Universities and Higher Education Institutions Maryam bint Hamad Al Mannai said on Thursday she was riding high with the tournament’s technical and organizational success.

In a press statement, Al Mannai hailed the Hamab Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s successful hosting of the great event and warm reception, which were acclaimed by all players, coaches and heads of delegations.

It was a challenge for the HBKU to organize a tournament that consumerates with the State of Qatar’s great potentials shown in its successful organization of all sporting events, most notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, she said.

Al Mannai added that the edition, which featured the first-ever padel competitions, made a great success thanks to the tremendous support that the HBKU and the Organizing Committee received from all state agencies, particularly the Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Aspire Academy, Padel In, and private companies.

The President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham highlighted the State of Qatar’s pioneering organization of regional, international and global sports events, hailing the sporting activities’s key role in forming the students’s personality and building their capabilities.

The President of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Naimi said this edition achieved its goals in all respects. The HBKU’s hosting of this tournament contributes to preparing well-equipped graduates on the scientific, psychological and physical levels, Al Naimi said.

The ninth edition of the Sports Tournament for the GCC Universities and Higher Education Institutions, which featured 471 athlete students from 15 GCC unversities, is due to wrap up Friday.
