Doha: The Qatar Basketball Federation’s (QBF) Board of Directors convened its regular meeting under the chairmanship of Federation President Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb to assess the 2025–2026 season and chart the course ahead.
Al-Mughaiseeb opened by commending the collective efforts that drove the season’s success, noting that the results reflect the depth of administrative, technical, and organizational work underpinning basketball’s continued growth across Qatar.
The season delivered strong competitive highlights. Al Rayyan Club lifted the trophy in the inaugural Qatar Basketball Super Cup, a welcome addition to the domestic calendar, while Al Arabi Club swept the League Championship, Qatar Cup, and HH the Amir Basketball Cup, asserting clear dominance across all three major tournaments.
Youth development remained a central pillar of the Federation’s agenda, with a full schedule of age-group tournaments drawing wide club participation. Talent identification programs continued to feed the national team pipeline, while women’s basketball gained further momentum through the Women’s and Girls’ League Championship, which recorded growth in both participation and technical level.
On the international front, the Board spotlighted the Qatar men’s 3×3 team’s gold medal at the Asian Beach Games in Sanya 2026, secured with a commanding 21–10 win over Thailand in the final. Attention now turns to the 4th Gulf Games, opening in Doha on May 11, 2026, where Qatar’s men’s and women’s sides will compete in 3×3 basketball.
Looking further ahead, the senior men’s team is focused on the Asian qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, the first time the tournament will be held in the region, while all national teams are preparing for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to the Federation’s strategic framework, emphasizing domestic competition development, national team preparation, youth investment, and broader community engagement as the foundations for sustained success.
